2017 Calgary Expo Recap

Last weekend marked the 5th year in a row that I’ve had a small press booth at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. Once again, my husband and I alternated days so that one of us could be home to take care of our toddler so I was only at the expo for 2 of the 4 days. I had a great time, but I have to admit that it's so much more fun when we're there together.

As usual, there were lots of great costumes, but my favourite was the couple dressed as the house and little boy from the movie Up. So creative!

It was great to see and re-connect with the friends we’ve made at the expo over the years and once again, I was fortunate to have author/illustrator Mike Bolt in the booth right next to mine. Mike is such a nice guy and I love his work! This year I picked up his latest book, A Tiger Tail. It's a great story with wonderful illustrations. I especially love that cover!

Check out this amazing family portrait that our friend Danielle Corsetto surprised us with. It looks so much like us! If you haven't read her comic Girls With Slingshots, you really should.

I picked up some awesome finds from some of the other vendors. I got chapter 3 of Aaron Navrady’s beautifully illustrated, epic comic: The Cold Fire, as well as the latest edition of Post Script. I also got my husband and I matching lobster pins by local picture book illustrator Kim Smith. She has a whole set of Animals in Sweaters and they're all so cute that it was hard to choose.

Once again my friend Laurier and his girlfriend, Kelly, helped out with the booth. I really appreciate their help and kindness. And Laurier is so great at talking to people about my books!

Thank you to everyone who came by the booth. We sold lots of prints and buttons, but I’m always especially pleased when people buy my books. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
